Henry II, who was also known as Henry Curtmantle and Henry Plantagenet, ascended to the English throne on December 19th, 1154.  He was 21 years old when he became King of England.  At the time of his coronation, he ruled more land in France than the French king!  Henry II’s titles included:  King of England,  Duke of Normandy,  Duke of Aquitaine (by right of wife),  Count of Anjou, Count of Maine,  Count of Nantes,  Count of Poitou,  and Lord of Ireland.  At various times, he also controlled Brittany (through his fourth son’s marriage), Wales, and Scotland.
